Bauxite grade

Cement Grade Bauxite

Bauxite with closely monitored iron and silica profiles, supplied to cement plants as an alumina corrective for clinker raw mix.

Bauxite as an alumina corrective in cement

Portland cement clinker is made by burning a carefully proportioned raw mix, mostly limestone with smaller amounts of clay, shale and correctives. When the main raw materials are short of alumina, plants add a small proportion of bauxite to bring the mix to its target chemistry.

Cement chemists control that chemistry with ratios such as the alumina modulus and silica modulus. These affect how easily the mix burns in the kiln and the properties of the finished clinker. A corrective only helps if its own chemistry is predictable, so lot-to-lot consistency is as important as the alumina content.

Our cement grade is supplied with Fe₂O₃ and silica monitored per lot, so plants can dose it with confidence.

Key specifications

ParameterWhy it mattersWhat we supply
Al₂O₃ (alumina)Supplies the alumina the raw mix is short of.Bauxite-grade alumina, analysed per lot
Fe₂O₃Shifts the alumina modulus and affects melt formation in the kiln.Monitored per lot
SiO₂Shifts the silica modulus and the mix's burnability.Monitored per lot
ConsistencyStable corrective chemistry keeps kiln feed and clinker quality steady.Tested at the stockpile and again at loading

Indian Bureau of Mines notes that alumina producers prefer bauxite with a minimum of 40% Al₂O₃. Final specifications are agreed per contract and confirmed by lab analysis.

How we select and check this grade

  1. Ore is graded into lots by chemistry after on-site crushing and screening.
  2. Iron and silica are monitored lot by lot against the plant's targets.
  3. Every lot is sampled at the minehead stockpile and again at loading.
  4. Final specifications are agreed per contract and confirmed by lab analysis.

Frequently asked questions

Why do cement plants use bauxite?

Bauxite is added in small quantities to correct the alumina content of the clinker raw mix when limestone and clay or shale do not supply enough. It helps the plant reach its target alumina and silica moduli.

Why does consistency matter for cement grade bauxite?

A corrective is dosed against a target chemistry. If iron or silica varies from lot to lot, the raw mix drifts and kiln operation and clinker quality suffer. Minequor monitors Fe₂O₃ and SiO₂ per lot and tests every lot twice.

Can you match our raw-mix targets?

Share your target Al₂O₃, Fe₂O₃ and SiO₂ ranges and size requirement. Minequor grades lots by chemistry and agrees final specifications per contract, confirmed by lab analysis.
